Awkward Theatre Manifesto
1. Awkward theatre rejects the capitalist notion of competitiveness, allocating a space within this hostile environment to foreground a notion of caring, and the potential of being cared for.
2. Awkward theatre creates a void in the system where you are given the active choice of berating, shaming, and dismissing the deviations before you. In the same void you have the same active choice of confusion, rejection, and empathy towards the identity before you.
3. Awkward theatre rejects legibility not just as a byproduct of complexity, but as a political refusal to be absorbed into systems of recognition. Awkward theatre invites contradictions over clarity, tension over resolution. It lives in the stutter of a sentence that never ends.
4. Awkward theatre is an insistence on potentiality. Awkwardness is not grasped in the here and now, but a glimmer into a world that is not here yet. Awkwardness is ever waiting for the expectations to align back into coherence.
5. Awkward theatre is born in failure, and lives in failure. It offers no solution, you get to live in it with me.
